The Meaning and Application of Silence in Different Cultures; Emphasizing its Position in Islamic Thought

Abstract:
The field research in different countries shows that the role of non-verbal communication is much more effective in transmitting information than verbal communication. The message is conveyed without the use of words in non-verbal communication. The non-verbal aspects of communication include facial language, visual contact language, standing language, voice language, body language, color language, smell language, time language, and place language. There is a kind of silent language called "silence" that is less considered. However, its role in communication, especially in intercultural communication, can be ignored. So, the question is, what is the meaning and function of silence in different cultures? This study uses a descriptive-analytical method, emphasizing the "realism method" of Shahid Sadr and relying on accessible documents and data while answering the question, it examines the view of Islam in this regard, since understanding the meaning of the audience's communication actions is important for effective communication and overcoming misunderstandings. The findings of this study show that silence is also an important form of communication that its meaning and role vary from culture to culture. In Islamic culture and thought, it is considered as a kind of communication model that can have important implications and consequences.

Abstract:
پژوهش های میدانی در کشورهای مختلف نشان می دهد که نقش ارتباطات غیرکلامی، در انتقال اطلاعات در مقایسه با ارتباطات کلامی بسیار مؤثرتر است. در ارتباطات غیرکلامی، پیام بدون استفاده از کلمات منتقل می شود. از ابعاد غیرکلامی ارتباطات، می توان به زبان حالت و چهره، زبان تماس دیداری، زبان طرز ایستادن، زبان صدا، زبان تن پوش، زبان رنگ، زبان بو، زبان زمان و زبان مکان اشاره کرد. در این میان، نوعی زبان خاموش یعنی «سکوت» هم وجود دارد که کمتر مورد توجه قرار می گیرد. با این همه، نمی توان نقش آن را در ارتباطات، به ویژه در ارتباطات میان فرهنگی نادیده گرفت. بنابراین، پرسشی که مطرح می شود اینکه معنا و کارکرد سکوت در فرهنگ های مختلف چیست؟ ازآنجاکه درک معنای کنش های ارتباطی مخاطبان برای برقراری ارتباط مؤثر و غلبه بر سوء تفاهمات اهمیت دارد، این پژوهش با استفاده از روش توصیفی ـ تحلیلی، با تأکید بر «روش واقع گرایی» شهید صدر و با تکیه بر اسناد و داده های قابل دسترس، ضمن پاسخ به پرسش مذکور، به یافتن دیدگاه اسلام در این خصوص پرداخت. یافته ها حاکی از این است که سکوت نیز گونه ای مهم از ارتباط به شمار می رود که معنا و نقش آن از فرهنگی به فرهنگ دیگر متفاوت است. در فرهنگ و اندیشه اسلامی نیز نوعی الگوی ارتباطی تلقی می شود که می تواند دلالت ها و پیامدهای مهمی به دنبال داشته باشد.
