Beliefs are part of the functional phenomena that affect the lives of social activists. The doctrine of "waiting" is one of the beliefs that has function which helps to revitalize religion and religious community by the various roles its plays. Explaining the functions of this doctrine from the perspective of Grand Ayatollah Khamenei as a religious thinker who himself plays an active role as the greatest leader of the Islamic society on the basis of this doctrine, is of high importance. The author tries in this study to expound the social functions of the doctrine of ‘’waiting’’ from the perspective of the Supreme Leader using a descriptive - analytical method documentary library - based method. The findings show that regarding his view about the function of the doctrine of ‘’waiting’’, Ayatollah Khamenei mentions a number of elements as the social functions of waiting including: the function of hope, the possibility and necessity of combating oppression, preparing the ground for change, dissatisfaction with the current situation, progress exercising supervision.
