Ma`rifat Farhangi Ejtemaei

The influence of cultural and social factors on ethics is among the basic topics in the field of ethics. In his precious book “Me’raj al-Sa’adat”, the great scholar, Mulla Ahmad Naraghi, paid special attention to this important issue. He argued that presence in society paves the way for gaining moral traits and established an interaction between social actions on the one hand, and knowledge and moral virtues on the other hand. In addition, he believed that many moral traits have a social origin and supported a kind of moral relativism by taking customs and traditions into account. He considered social factors to be important in the development of moral character and introduced them as a key to eradicating the roots if vices and creating and promoting virtues.
